September 22, 2015

Hello fellow members,
Just a quick note to fill you in on some of the happenings over the summer council meetings in Trent Lakes.  I try to attend all council meetings and will report on any significant issues.  You can also go the Trent Lakes website and view all the minutes of the council meetings for yourself. (www.trentlakes.ca)

First off, it would seem that the current council is holding strong and is keeping spending down and belts tight at this time.  This is good.

In regards to the new quarry, it’s going to happen but just when is not exactly known.  I think the biggest fear for me is what the impact will be on our roads and this is yet to be seen.

Our new fire station is coming along but will be at least a month or so late due to the delay in the delivery of the steel for the super structure.  This fire hall is much needed and will only add further support to our fire fighting needs.

On September 21st, the Buckhorn Rate Payers sponsored an “all candidates forum” with five of our party candidates in attendance at the BCC.  Approximately 185 people came out to listen to what the parties were putting on the plate in the upcoming federal election.  This large turnout was unexpected but greatly appreciated by the candidates as well as everyone who helped organize the event.  Many “Thanks” to everyone who helped out.  This election is very important and I hope that you will get out and vote.  At this time, we don’t know where we will be voting since nothing has been confirmed.  The general opinion is that it will be at the BCC as it has been in the past.  As soon as this has been confirmed, I’ll let you know.

There will be a “Meet & Greet” with Liberal candidate Maryam Monsef , Wednesday, October 7th at 12 noon at the Gallery on the Lake Café.  The address is 65 Gallery on the Lake Road, Fire Route 21, Buckhorn, Ontario.  Lunch will be served.  Please RSVP by email to [email protected] no later than October 5th.

Just a reminder, we will be having another roadside clean-up October 17th at 9:00am.  Gloves, bags and vests will be supplied and your helping hands will clean our village roads of garbage that is thrown to the curb and will keep our village looking beautiful.  If you could send an email to me at [email protected] and let me know how many people you can bring to help out, it would be appreciated.

I want to remind all of you that our voice will be heard louder as the number of members in the association increase so please tell your neighbours and friends about our association and encourage them to join.  We are planning another meeting and want to know your thoughts and ideas about what you want to talk about and who to invite.  Voice your thoughts and concerns about what you feel would make our village more attractive, prosperous and enjoyable to all.

Sorry for being so long winded, but please spread the word of our association and get out and VOTE on October 19th.
